Benjamin Haley

Hidden Valley High School
Class of 2015

University: Dual enrollment at Rogue Community College while taking online classes at Lane Community College related to a Low Energy apprenticeship I have started.
Major: Pursuing an AS in Applied Science at RCC and taking online classes at LCC related to a low energy apprenticeship I am in.
Scholarships Received From JCEF: Local scholarships from SEIU-Local 503, Greater Grants Pass Rotary Club, Evergreen Bank, VASO, Grants Pass Board of Realtors, College Dreams, Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association and Three Rivers School District Administrators/Jim Bottroff Memorial totaled $4,100. Additionally, I was awarded a $4,000 Fred Fields Scholarship from the Oregon Community Foundation through OSAC. I am so appreciative of the support!

Experiences that impacted my career and education direction: My welding and woods classes at Hidden Valley taught me that I really like working with my hands. I am working fulltime with a local communications company for my field experience and really have enjoyed my experience so far.

High school activities: During my high school career, I was involved in wrestling, earning a four year varsity letter; football, baseball, golf, FFA and welding. My wrestling experience has helped me to be able to dig down deep inside when things get tough. On the mat, there is only yourself and nobody else to blame for mistakes or failure.

I don’t think people realize how much scholarships mean to high school graduates. It really gives you a shot in the arm to know that people, other than your parents, believe in you. The scholarships I received will give me an opportunity to pay for my education without having the additional stress of wondering how I am going to pay for it. I want to send a big shout out to all of the donors, potential donors and scholarship committees. THANK YOU!!!
