  • Award: $500
  • Eligibility: Graduating senior from Grants Pass High School
  • Selection Criteria: Student who best exemplifies leadership in service to others, specifically contributions to minority populations. Participation in culturally specific leadership conferences, workshops, or MEChA will be given additional consideration.
  • Use of Funds: Scholarship checks are mailed directly to the recipients’ college or university for payment of tuition and fees. Award may also be used for books and needed school supplies upon presentation of receipts to JCEF for reimbursement.
  • About this Scholarship: Established in memory of  Lance Cpl. Juan M Garcia Schill, a 2005 graduate of Grants Pass High School. Manuel enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduation to help pay to go to college to become a teacher. He was a young man with a good sense of humor, who loved children and Tae Kwon Do. He had earned a black belt and aspired to teach martial arts to children. Juan was killed in 2007 while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq at age 20.
