Planned college activities, clubs and sports: I hope to meet new people with similar interests by joining a local horticulture or gardening club. I also want to meet fellow equestrian and horseback riders.
What scholarships I received: In addition to the JC Master Gardeners, I want to thank JC Young Farmers, The Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association, Oregon Nursery Association and OHSET: Southern District for their scholarships.

I would like to say to all those who gave me this money to pursue a college education, thank you for making it possible for me and so many others to follow our dreams and make something of ourselves. Illinois Valley High School

Brian WatermanWith so many of my fellow students applying for the same scholarships as myself, I often felt like I had no chance of receiving anything. Upon receiving a scholarship, I was reminded that I should not doubt my own abilities; no one should. Receiving a scholarship also meant that I was given an opportunity that I realize not many students are able to have nowadays. It spoke to me as a message saying, ‘Yeah, you are good, now you can become even better.’  It is such an honor knowing I am supported by so many people who want me to succeed in life, and it just continues to push me forward, knowing all these years of hard work will pay off soon.

The scholarships combined with my personal savings will help me complete my first year of college debt-free.  Words cannot describe how nice it is to know I will not have loans hanging over my head for the first year.

In the beginning, I had nothing. Thanks for the $2,500 GEAR UP scholarship grant from the Oregon Community Fund that JCEF administers. With the renewable Gilmore Scholarship ($5,000 annually for 4 years), College Dreams’ IDA program and the W. Irving Baldini local scholarship, I have something that I can use to better my future. I hope to make a difference in other people’s lives through my planned career in criminal justice.
